    Default 3.2 cylinders where?

BAH! Got a misfire and engine check light, used the pedal method to get the codes - 0305 and 0306, so misfire on cylinders 5 and 6.

Can anyone tell me which these are, the rear bank or the front. Also if I get a new coil pack are they the same for front and back banks?

    Cheers...

I would have said that 5 and 6 would be the rear two cylinders, the ones furthest away from the front pulleys.

*******. I think 5 is rear and 6 is front, that sucks.

I hope it is the coil packs. My old Omega V6 went bad on me: misfires on two or more cylinders. I replaced spark plugs... HT leads (it was an X30XE)... then tappets... No change. It was down on compression on those cylinders, so had probably suffered valve seat failure, broken valves or something that was affecting cylinder sealing. I hope you have better luck! How many miles has the car done? Paul

It's only done 78k and before the check light was pulling fine and sounding fine so fingers crossed.

Probably something straightforward then. :-D My Omega had 172,000 miles on it when I gave up! And my GSi has 143,000+ too. Hopefully it still has some life left in it. I'm trying to think how you could diagnose the problem. It's a pity it's not easier to borrow coil packs... Paul

How to change coil on Vectra C 3.2 Gsi

Not too hard... Literally take off the plennum (top silver part of the engine with the 3 round banks on either side of it) by pulling off the black plastic stip on top and you'll see 5 holes, inside each one is a torx screw, can't remember the size... possibly T30? Shine a torch down and check. Uscrew them, the plennem should wobble a bit now. Disconnect most things except the fuel line, push it out of the way. There's one more torx screw under the throttle body, you need to remove that (three torx screws, two on top and one under the opening). Get that off and just hold it away and you'll see the same size torx screw as the plennum screws holding the plennum on. Unscrew and the plennum will lift... Underneath you'll see inlet manifold and the coils on either side, you may need someone to hold up the plennum while you unscrew and pull off the coils. Change them etc, prob best to do plugs while you're there unless they're reasonably new. Put everything back and off you go :-)

Aye, cheers. Trouble is I can't get the parts til during the week and then I'd have to wait til the weekend to do it for the light. VX can get the parts for tuesday and do it for wednesday morning and the work is all warrantied so although it's pricey I'm going to let them do it.

I really hope this is the last big thing for a while.
