Question Light Crunching noise when pulling away

    Hi all,

Need your help again. I have just got all my discs and pads replaced along with the front right wheel bearing.

Everything seems to be fine apart from one annoying thing:

Light crunching noise from front right when pulling away. This only happens when pulling away from a complete stop each time. As soon as you press the accelerator to get moving, there is a little crunch as if something is getting stretched when under tension. There is no such noise when the car is in motion or at any other time and it all seems smooth otherwise. Pretty certain this noise wasn't there before the current work.

Have already taken the car back to the garage once, they have checked and cannot find anything obvious wrong or missing. They have told me to drive it for a while and see if the noise goes away but I am not convinced.

Has the garage screwed up something while fitting front right discs/pads and wheel bearing? Have they not fitted something back properly that can cause this?

Any help would be highly appreciated as I really want to get things perfect after spending a lot on the car recently.

Sre the discs rusting up and you can hear the rust being cleared off?

Sounds like you have a caliper that is stiff and binding on until you move off again

Yes sounds like brake pad is binding to the disc - caliper binding. You sometimes get this noise when a car has been parked up for a few days and pads have stuck to the disk with rust but then it's both sides. Try releasing the hand brake before you start, and push the car to see if the brake is stuck on (or if you are on a slope, it should just roll).

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I don't think it will be the disc rust that is cleared off as I move because it started happening as soon as I picked the car from the garage after the work (so no chance of rust appearing that soon).

ABS - well it may be as it has just got a new wheel bearing hub. Would it cause such a crunching grinding noise each time when you pull off?

Regarding caliper binding - its interesting you mention this as I have noticed I also have a slight screech when coming to a complete stop and when just taking off. This doesn't happen all the time though. I put this down to new discs and pads settling down and also the rust being cleared after few hours of parking in the rain. Is this assumption correct? The car (being an automatic) does seem to creep forward ok when handbrake is released.

But the noise I get is strange crunching as if something is getting pulled /stretched the moment I press the accelerator and try to pull off. Note that this doesn't happen when car starts creeping forward slightly (with foot off the brake pedal) but only when accelerator is pressed and you actually try to take off. It only lasts for a couple of seconds like when something is pulled and then doesn't appear till the car is brought to a complete stop and then gets moving again.

Will strut top bearing make a noise even when steering is not turned? And will it be specifically on acceleration? My noise has just started coming after the recent work with front right disc/pad and wheel bearing hub replacement, so could they have screwed this up somehow?
