    Default Dti fuel filter

Hi guy's, I thought I'd post up after doing a few searches, I wondered about posting in the trouble shooting section but its not a problem yet. I was just wondering about people's opinion on changing the filter without the special pump. I bought a new filter today just as a bit of routine maintenance but after reading up about damaging the fuel pump I have been put off changing it as the car is fine at the moment. What's the general thoughts
Get a vx dealer to do it?
    Or
Have a go (not keen on this option now)

    Cheers

    Special pump?

Just take the fuel filter housing lid off, remove filter, put new filter in and top up chamber with some diesel . Then crank like mad until it fires up. Not sure what you mean by special pump?

he means a primer. but i used to do the above, remove filter, fit new filter then refil housing with clean diesel, reattach top, pour in more through the bolt hole if u can, then clamp it down, fire it up, it may stall within a few seconds, but turn it over in 10-15sec bursts with 30secs inbetween and it'll fire up fine.

That's the method i use on my Y20DTH. Fill it right up with clean diesel, top back on & it has always fired up as if the fuel system hadn't been disturbed........have never even had the need to crack the injector pipes off.

Thanks guy's, put's my mind at ease. I'm usually fairly handy with the spanners but a simple filter had me worried lol. The haynes manual puts the wind up you with all that can go wrong inside the pump if run dry.

Yeah the primer tool i meant is an electric bleeder.
