Why would it be pointless to improve the efficiency of your brakes? Who told you it would be pointless. Do they drive a corsa with a big bore exhaust. Or perhaps a car tuned to death engine wise and no change to suspension/ brakes either way they clearly don't know.

If you drive fairly refined then it probably wouldn't warrant the extra spend of uprated parts. But your choice mate. Fitting them with a decent compound pad will make braking a lot better

Well I wanted a set of decent breaks cause I am a bit of a heavy breaker and I made some phone calls to see how much it would cost and I was told that their is no need for anything other then padgid breaks cause my car dont have enough horse power and better breaks would make no difference

Ok, taking improving your driving out of the equation, there are going to be 3 main elements to consider: BRAKE pads... BRAKE discs.... tyres.

You can have the world's most powerful BRAKES bit if you have lousy traction from rubbish tyres then you'll still have problems. So look to putting decent rubber on your wheels and don't be tempted to run whatever you have down to slicks.

Pads and discs are combined as soft pads and abrasive discs are about as much use as hard pads and cheap rubbish discs... you need a well balanced combination that are suited to each other and suitable for the application, which in this case is not what would generally be termed a 'high performance' car.
Straight off there is nothing wrong with the OEM Vx pad & disc kit. The brake setup would be designed to safely stop the vehicle at it's max design weight (plus a safety margin on top) at the maximum speed of the vehicle.
If you decide you want to fit harder pads, just be aware they may well shorten the life of the standard discs and likewise, if you fit drilled or drilled and grooved discs they may well get through standard pads faster.

Another option you may wish to consider would be uprating your standard brakes to those of a more powerful Vectra model - the 314mm option will very happily stop a 3.2 V6 from silly mph, so just think the effect they'd have on your 2.2

I'd second that. I upgraded my 1.9CDTI to 314's from the standard 285's, with stock discs and pads are they are much better. Even upgrading to 302's would make a substantial difference.
