Default going for 2 new front tyres tomorrow, opinions?

Ok so my 2008 vectra sri needs 2 new front tyres, 215 50 17. MOT is also next week so cant really put it off, plus its just common sense really.

I have about £130 for tyres so need tyres around the £65 mark each.

Would you personally change tyre sizes to 225 45 17 as there is a better choice of tyres for that price or stick with the original size and go for a budget tyre?

    Dillema people, help!

225/45/17 are cheaper, so more likely to find 2 tyres in your price range.

They may be cheaper to buy in the 1st place, but in the long run the tyres actually rotate more to cover the same distance than the 215/50/17's. Plus you'll be driving slightly slower than your speedo displays. As for prices, i have done some research as i have had the same question as you, and have found the prices pretty similar, but the range of 215 tyres is smaller than the 225.

There will be some here who dispute this & say the differences are negligable, but the differences are there. I have used an app called 'Tire Wheel Guide' on my android phone which shows you the difference between the 2. See Below.

    Have a look at: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/

I went for Evergreen's on mine, but Vredestein Sport track 5's get a very good write up.

If you do plenty of miles it makes sense to spend more and get an eco tyre, the money it will save in reduced fuel consumption over an economy tyre will pay for itself and more.

    If not, Neuton NT5000/8000's.

But on the downside the handling will be compromised as the frictional properties of the tyres to the road will be less.
