    Default Vectra Alarm

Put the alarm on earlier on the Vectra, I think, by locking the doors using the = button on the key, then pressing it again immediately after, it blipped and the lights flashed again, so I assume it switched on.

However, I left the window down, turned the alarm on again by the same process, put my arm inside the car and waved it about/touched the steering wheel/seat/etc. to set the alarm off and nothing happened, yet the owners manual says the alarm monitors the interior for movement, when switched on.

any ideas whats up, or isnt it supposed to go off in this circumstance.

also any other ideas how to trick it into going off so I can test it.

It should work. If you leave the windows open and lock the car the alarm will go off if you stick your arm through the window and wave it around BUT you need to wait around 30 secs before doing this as the interior sensors don't activate for this time after locking the car.

The other surefire way is to lock the car with the remote fob, then unlock the car with the key in the door. When you open it, the alarm will go off. You can turn it off either by using the fob or sticking the key in the ignition and turning it on.

BTW, when it does finally go off, you won't be impressed by how loud it is!! Why are you trying to set it off BTW?

I was shocked when I first got mine to go off! Why is it so quiet? Can you get replacement sounders or anything?

Why is it so quiet? - Gawd knows!! I think it's very difficult, if not impossible, to replace the sounder as it's wired into CANBUS so you're stuck with the Vx one.

i think its because the sounder is in the boot on the left hand side and not in the engine bay, there it is open and would be loader.I wonder if you could move it to the engine bay, could be the next HOW2

the best place for a car alarm ( as told to me by a reformed car theif ) is actually under the steering wheel somewhere,
the reason for this is quite obvious, its not so much to tell peeps ur car has been broken into but to deafen and annoy any theif so they dont want to hang around , thats the theory anyway......

the internal sensing will only work if you have the two sensors mounted by the rear view mirror just in front of where the sunglasses holder would go, i have seen some Veccys without them ??

another way of disabling the internal sensors ( if you wnat to leave a pet or someone in the car ) is to press the alarm button in the dash by the stereo, everything else works but the inside sensors

someone told me that new regulations limit the volume of new car alarms and also the length of tim e they sound for also if my windows are wound down and i put the alarm on (2 clicks) wait 30 secs, i can walk past the car about 1m away and the alarm sensors pick it up and set the alarm off, is it too sensitive or acting as a perimeter sensor ????

It's not working as a perimeter sensoras as such, it's just picking up the movement outside the car as the windows are open and the sensors can 'see' further.

i was quite surprised to find out that the vectra's had an alarm in the first place, alot of manufacturers only install immobilisers these days.

but even though, if you're going to put an alarm on a car then do it properly and make it loud enough to wake you up and bring some attention to the car.

ok, I'll try all the things you've mentioned, just wanting to check the alarm, along with all the other features work.

also, if the alarm has been set to work without the interior sensors switched on, how do I reset it to work with the interior sensors switched on as well.

    cheers.
