nasty intermittent noise 120 8v

right guys. i had a little chirp noise which i know was probably the aux belt a while back,which seemed to go away til the other day.then whilst out earlier ,after getting to destination,it was making a lot more noise ,some of it squealy,some almost grindy.after getting back out an hour later we started it up and it was briefly there on start up,then went,till next stop about 3 miles away.again,came back and it went away,till next stop and it started again on pulling in.it goes from higher pitched to more rubbing/grindy and back,so whats the first thing?
about 10 miles from home so wondering if its worth a free rac call out ?

just thought of one thing ,when i blipped it when it had the noise it seemed to reduce /stop it?

Could be alternator bearing, tensioner bearing, idler bearing, air con compressor bearing causing your 'grindy' noise - alternatively could be coming from the cambelt pulleys/tensioner or water pump - if its squealing more than likely to be on the auxillary belt side I would think and usually the alternator

well thing is we got aa out already and guess what,it didnt do it .took it out to get it to do it,nothing.he had a good look over,said the aux belt looks sweet and straight and couldnt hear anything untoward.held the revs up for a while and got nothing.he was apologetic not giving any clue,but said best thing is when its doing it get local mechanic(got one i trust) to have a listen and se what happens.seems to be worse when hot,but only really when coming to a stop and like i said it clears when blipped or left to go cold.but will look out for anything and post it.cheers

Can't be a deal wrong with it and if it is a bearing on the way out the noise will gradually get worse and give more indication whereabouts it is - I would have thought if it was anything he would have picked up on it. I would just keep a very close eye on it.

well quick update,since tuesday afternoon it hasnt done it once,so really confused,as although i am no top mechanic,it definately wasnt pleasant and i think next time i may try doing a vid on my phone to post up for any idea's.if it happens again that is!
