    Default Engine Replacement

    Hi,

    How much of a job is it to change out an 2.0dti engine from my vec c to a slightly newer one, reason being is i think its on its way out, sounds awful and loads of people have said to me it sounds bad also. changed the oil on it to see if it would improve, was told to put in 5w30 and since then, once warm i get the oil pressure light on or flickering when idleing? mileage is now 158000

    Seem some second hand ones for about £200-£300, is it worth a chance? what sort of cost am i looking at to swap one. I hear you have to code the pump to the new engine also?

    Last thing how do i find my engine code to double check im buying the right one for my car, just ring up vauxhal and ask or is it stamped anywhere. Its an 53plate vec c estate

    Try 10w40 oil

    and put 1/2 litre of 2 stroke oil in with a full fuel tank and see if makes it sound any better

    Bit of a gamble fitting a £2-300 engine could be as bad as the old one - make sure you can hear it running in the donor car and also ask if there is any history supplied with it.

    thats about there price then you need to add about the same again for fitting you can swop over your own fuel pump
    mine (a 2.2 dti) has been noisey for over 2 years now about 50,000 miles and has now 180,000 mile on it and still going strong
    people told me all sorts of horror stories of why it was noisey ie. the crank is about to snap the timimg chains are going to break
    as critch said stick some 10w40 and new filters in and drive on
    i have my own suspision it is the inlet manifold gasket some day i will change it

    Change to 10/40 oil and get the oil pressure checked by a garage. If the oil pump is getting weak it might be the noise is coming from that.

    You have problem with oil pressure- must change bearings on crankshaft immediately- better do not drive a car until you fix becauose crankshaft maybe snap!

    the crankshaft wont snap, itll just knacker the journals which will require a regrind and oversize bearings
