    Default S***, Advice Needed!

Picked Up Our Vectra today, only to discover earlier the service book isnt for our car, i.e. our cars reg is DS54 and the service book contains the details of a car identical to ours only the reg doesnt match it says FN05 our car was owned by a company previously so they've obviously mixed up the service book when handing the cars back.

naturally we'll be phoning the dealer we bought from tomorrow, but obviously by now the whereabouts of our correct service book could be anywhere, so where do we stand with getting a new 1, or finding out the history or how our warranty is affected if we cant get the original book back.

a bit annoyed cos we didnt get the AA membership card, or the car pass, or the radio pass. which will also be brought up when we phone the dealer tomorrow,

oh how I'm glad my own car is old enough for this malarky not to matter.

If any service work was done by a Vauxhall dealership, the computer records will still be available, and a duplicate service book should be provided by the dealer you bought it from.

    That's my opinion anyway.
When I got my car, there was no pass code etc, the desaler provided it all for free, when asked.

    Hi all,

It could be your history is with the FN05 car, could try giving the company a call and find out where that car is.

yup, I for some reason think arnold clark bought the FN05 car as well as I'm sure I seen an FN05 vectra on the forecourt near ours, surely more than a coincidence as I'm in scotland and most cars are S*54 etc. or K*54 (Luton)

As above, get in touch with the dealer. It could be that they bought your car and the FN05 car in which case your documentation would be with the other car at the dealers. If they didn't buy the other car, then they should be able to get in touch with the company they bought your car from and track down your documentation.

    there is another possability.......

they have put the wrong registration on the car you bought , ie , from the other car , the most important thing you should do today is check the VIN details against the car, if the vin matches your documentation then they may have balls'd it up,
the reason this happens is that they like to put their own dealers reg plates on the cars, then some prat with a screwdriver mixes up the two cars out the back while doing the work cuz they look the same

i have heard of this happening more than once , most noticably they put a vans registration on a car, but the owner didnt find out for 6 months untill the real van got a ticket for running a red light, but the ticket turned up at the car owner home

    hope this helps

Your lucky, when I bought mine, also ex compnay, they had mixed up the locking wheel nuts, what a nightmare as no one keeps a record of which code the locking nuts on your car are.

As said above it is the garages problem not yours so go in and tell them to sort it ...

oops..........this happened on my Mk3 Mondeo Ghia , when i went to the ford garage i was quite surprised to find there are only 12 different ones, they just got a box out, tried em till they found the one, and then ordered that matching code for me,,

i'm pretty sure its the same for the VX ones ( tho there are different ' generations ' of type , castle or key etc... )
