Default Tech 2, Opcom and Vauxcom - what are the differances - which is best

Hi to all. I am new to this car programming lark - the cars I am used to just had parts that were interchangeable and no programming was possible as they had no computers in them! Guess I am showing my age!

Anyway I was just wandering what the differences were between the three packages that are mentioned on these forums. I know Tech 2 is the official Vauxhall one but is there really anything that it can do that the others can't?

I am talking about the proper legal packages by the way not the naughty Chinese knock off's!

opcom and vauxcom are the same thing opcom for Europe vauxcom for here

opcom sold here is usually pirated

tech2 does the same things I dont think theres much more you can do with tech2 over vauxcom

tech 2, vx diagnostics/programing equipment £2k plus (beware of copied versions from china)

vauxcom, aftermarket diagnostics/most programing functions £640 plus vat http://www.ilexa.co.uk/diagnostic-tools/vaux-com.html

opcom , pirated vauxcom from china( thats how i see it as opcom has only got some of the functions/programing ability of vauxcom) under £30 from ebay

just basic diagnostics then opcom is great for the money

Vehicle : Mk1 renault scenic... I know I know but it drives

Tech 2 is genuine dealer level software requires a yearly subscription and a big wallet for initial purchase. Their are pirated copies but no technical helpline or back up.

vaux com is a computer software from ilexia costing 680+ vat with free updates you have technical support and guidance if/ when needed direct from ilexia

opcom basically same as vaux com just for the European market. Opcom sold in this country is cheap pirated out of date software with no technical back up etc

that said depending on what you plan to do, it can be a good purchase. Considering it costs around same price as an EOBD reader

If you go for Opcom, be aware that the Vectra-C forum does not offer any support whatsoever as described in the Forum Rules

But other Vauxhall Forums don't seem to have a problem with it and there is also dedicated site that offers a lot of useful advice and information
