Default To Signum or not to Signum

    Hello all, first post here!

Just after some advice i want to get rid of my old 306 and get something new and am currently thinking about a Signum.

I will have upto possibly 9-10k to spend, am looking for something with less than 40k miles on, etc.

Would the Signum be a good buy? Which engine should i think about going for (need to see if i can get insured on the 3.2 as im only 21)?

Are there any major differences between the different specs?

Think i would have to get one with the Irmscher skirts all round or think about putting them on after purchase as they improve the looks no end. Are there any cheaper places to get them other than irmshcer-bits?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Thats one of the things attracting me the prices are very reasonable.

As is the insurance, not really a typical 21 year olds car probably but with the kit on i think it looks decent.

Anyone know what the performance of the 2.0 T engine is like?

As David said, you'll pick up a very nice Signum for the money you've got.

I'd suggest getting either a Design or Elite spec. depending on your preferences. Design has the more 'sporty' options on styling and handling while the Elite has more of the gadgets and toys.

e.g. the Design has visible exhausts on the back, the lowered and uprated suspension and half-leather sports seats while the Elite has Electronic Climate Control, full leather heated seats with electric adjusting and memory position and a few other electrical gizmos inside. I don't think the Design has the auto-dimming mirror or the passenger side that tilts down when reversing.

If you like the extra gizmos of the Elite, it's easier to add the styling/handling of the Design than vice versa. This is what I've done with my Elite - added the full Irmscher suspension kit, visible sports exhausts and some other styling bits.

As for the 2.0T engine, it's no slouch - especially if you add a remap like the BSR one I have on mine.

If you're looking for a pre-facelift, which I think it'd have to be fiven your budget, then I'd look for a very late 04 model as it appears on the 05 Elite they appeared to drop a few of the electrical gizmos like the electrically adjusting seats and some other bits. Granted you got SatNav (I think), instead - but you'd need to check the spec to make sure you were getting the type of options that suited you best.

@ 21, you are gonna face 2k per yr premiums on full comp, if I was you until you get some bonus and age on you I'd look at a Vectra 1.8 SRi, that's unless you really need the long wheelbase car right now.

What i know about the insurance so far, on a 2.0T with a quick look cheapest quote i got was around £600 fully comp. Which i thought was very reasonable.

On a car in insurance group 13, i believe the 3.2 V6 is in 14, i was quoted around about £1000. So not sure how much difference the step up would make, need to make some calls. Obviously i appreciate different cars can have very different quotes!

Im not sure that i really need a 3.2 V6 anyway to be honest!

I was going the way of a 1.9CDTi Design.

Should be a few of those around and they have nice bits on them and very tuneable.
