affect MPG? I've noticed my consumption drop by around 10mpg recently, the thermostat's the thing I was thinking of first as it doesn't move much anymore. Just can't get my head round why the MPG should be so adversely affected.
Anyone?

iirc the engine cannot get to its optimum running temp so will either run too hot or cold and engines are designed to run with very tight tolerences.
basically too hot and components expand and become too tight and if too cold not tight enuf
Coolant temp effects the fuel mix. Cold engine = more fuel etc. all part of the ecu map.
Cheers.
I notice from your profile you've got an oil burner.
I'm guessing the garages are now selling winter diesel.
That'll make a difference to the fuel consumption.
10 mpg is a massive drop, noticed about 3-4 mpg loss when mine packed in
i think the reason is due to the programming in the ecu.
it is set to deliver a certain amount of fuel until the car gets to a certain temp
