    Default Quick oil question!

    Hi all

I'm getting an oil and filter change done tomorrow, I have a 1.8 vvt. Can anyone let me know the exact name of the oil I need to ask for (Vx main dealer)?

I know it's 5w30, I believe it also needs to be a specific 'part number'?

Also is all the Vx oil fully synthetic?

    Thanks

5/30 fully synthetic Dexos2 is what your dealer will sell you.

Check the receipt, as labour and parts should be listed separately
I ask for oil that meets GM-LL specification

The first few services on my car were paid for by VX, so I didn't receive the receipt
I then queried it during the second service and found the dealership was using 10W40 oil
They advised I had not requested GM-LL specification, even though I pointed out I was not paying for the services
VX sent me a letter to present to the dealership and they were instructed to completely re-do the latest service and replace the oil, then show me the receipt (and every receipt thereafter)
The dealership then updated the file for my car and it now shows "Use only GM-LL specification oil"

    Thanks guys

Yeah I noticed in the history that the previous services at Vx main dealer had 10w40 down, the last one was 5w30. I'll make sure GM-LL spec / Dexos2 is what they use!

Is Dexos2 the newer oil, ie what they should have in stock now?

That is shocking.. There is NO excuse what so ever for not doing this yourself on this engine - except possibly being disabled, and unable to get under the car....

The way I see it, they can poor coffee in and write any old crap on the reciept.
Do it yourself, and you KNOW what goes in it.
Castrol Magnatec 5w30 all the way....

30 quid for oil, a fiver for the filter, and 60 mins tops of your time.... job done. You know what's in there, you know your engine a bit better, and probably saved yourself some spends too....

Have to agree with Matt,an easy job to do,i do mine at least 3 times a year.you need to watch how much oil is put into the engine as when mine was done when i bought it the main dealers had put far too much in the engine-blamed their measuring equipment???.Do it yourself its so easy-i do mine and i'm recovering from cancer-----Dave

Chip, it is an easy job, if you live near Seaham, you can do it at mine, have all the tools you would need.

Well it's getting done under a warranty claim as they are dropping the sump to change the oil level sensor! I just wanted to make sure they used the correct oil.

I might take you up on that in the future as my driveway is on a steep incline which makes it tough. I'll be changing it again in the spring
