£450 might be quite fair, depends on the excesses, mileage, usage, and so on

Mine is £800 a year but that is high mileage with business use and nil excess
Next year this should reduce due to no longer being used for business purposes (which in turn lowers the mileage)

Personally, I wouldn't use Tesco as I noticed three levels of excesses on their previous quote
Equall, do NOT touch One Call (as they are currently being investigated by the MIB) and are not based in the UK (so are not covered by UK regulation)

    edit :
AA just sent me a renewal for £647 with £250 excess (13 years protected NCB)

As Das said, really this stuff is a complete lottery ! If they want business, they will beat the competition, if they don't need it or see you, or your vehicle, or your age, or your claim history, or where you live, or where it is parked, or or or or or or or ... as anything above an extremely safe bet, then they will premium price you.

Nothing else for it, but to try anyone and everyone IMO.

    Cheers and good luck bud

£426 was my best price, 31, clean license, 7 years NCB, and medium risk area with M&S Insurance. Had to renew mine this weekend, was with Swift Cover, but they wanted to bump my renewal up to £650.

I've never been with an insurer for more than a year's term, it just pays to shop around. Always found it cheaper elsewhere, but i couldn't tell you who are the cheapest as they are all different depending on your circumstances.

What I did notice with Tesco though was a good level of cover, a lot of things as standard where as you need to tick the extra boxes with a lot of other insurers. Sure the issue with excess with them is they have different excess for different age groups. TBH I wish I had stayed with Tesco instead off moving and only saving about £40. Im already wishing id stayed with Esure for the house insurance too.

    Those are the compulsory excesses
Tesco also have their own excesses which apply, as a result there are three tiers
It is well hidden in their documentation, and I suspect many people aren't aware of this, but will be if and when they claim!

    For example
The quote is £300 with £60 glass, £0 age, and £150 compulsory
There is then a further £50 excess for a hire car or £150 if you use an external provider
The legal cover also has a further £200 excess, and so on

The only certainty is that you MUST shop around every year. Everything else is a variable. I have no loyalty whatsoever to any insurance company, which is probably far more than they have to me.
