    Default Garage base.

    Hi all,

Just a bit of general advice really.

Has anyone on here laid a concrete base for a garage??
If so, how much and what size was it??

    Cheers all

    Tony

Paul, cheers for that mate, who better to get advice from!!!

I had heard "rumours" that it should be 8" but will see how the back fairs with the shoveling!! lol

Thank your dad for the advice and thanks to you for passing it on.

    Tony

May have more questions - they may be silly - for your dad nearer the time.

dependant on main uses will determine the thickness of base and grade of mix needed if it is just for general use of parking on then 4" think and a gen 1 mix would be fine

If you need it 6in thick, then make it 8in thick ..... better to overdo it a little than to have to sort out repairs and reworks later.

if it needs to be more than 6" think theres some serios work going on it we do farm yards and sheds 6" loading docks warehouses the lot at 6" with a252 weld mesh in it unless its spersificly requested by a structural engineer due to bad ground ie silt peat but if your puting a brick wall round the footings need to be a foot thick to carry the walls then the floor would be fine at 6" provided the sub base is done right the floor will be fine dont be fooled in to chucking 2" chalk at it and thinking ist ok you need 6" think chalk or limestone base made for 2" stuff the topped with 1" down rolled or wacker plated would be ok then cover it over with a sheet of dpm (damp prof membrain) when doing concreting make sure out side temp is above 5 deg and they is no frost forcast over night and you should be fine and finish with a good result ive never had a complaint in 17 years of constuction

oh and to calc the amount witdh x length x depth = cubic meters required ie all mesurments in millimetres
    3.0m x 6.0m x 0.1m = 1.8 cube
    10 foot x 20 foot x 4" = 1.8 cube
if you need it working out to a size your using give us a shout and i'll gladly work it out for you
