If you have access to a multimeter you need to check the battery voltage (engine off) and then at idle and with some revs (around 2000rpm should do). You're looking for about 12v engine off and around 14v running - slightly higher just after starting, but settling to around 13.5v.

If you don't have access to a meter, most battery places will do a check for you - some even free.

Once you can eliminate battery and alternator faults, you can better hunt down anoy other possible problem(s).

If you don't have a multimeter get yourself to local Halfords they'll perform a check and give you a print out

I had that happen. Turned out starter motor packed in. Alternator charges battery when engine running, starter motor plays a role with alternator as well. Take alternator and starter motor to reconditioning electrical place to be tested. Free!
