Transfering files from iPod to PC

Has anyone done this?

Trying to back up my iPod Nano (6th Gen) to my Windows 7 PC.

I've had a search round the net and not come to anything concrete.

Anyone done it, what did you use and how easy is it?

I'm not sure Keif, but if you connect the ipod to the pc via usb can you then see it in my computer as another drive?
If you can you may be able to drag and drop files from the ipod to a directory on the pc.

No Bindex, Apple have made sure it's not that easy.

If you mean you don't actually have iTunes and the music already on the PC at present, then you are right, it's a bit of a pain.

I've not used it myself, but would suggest that you'll need to use something like this:

Bit of a sweeping statement surely? If the hard drive in your PC were to die, and you lost all the music and photos that were on it and the only other place they existed was on your iPod, then I can't see the issue.

On the other hand, if you never actually owned/bought the material in the first place, then that's another matter to be fair.

Not really. The iPod wasn't designed as a backup device and Apple intentionally restricted the ability to copy the content of an iPod onto a computer to prevent piracy.

As per my previous post, I'm not disagreeing with you. If the intent is to somehow procure music that you are not legally entitled to have, then that's clearly wrong. ie. Borrowing your mates iPod and grabbing the music off it.

If the OP is however just trying to recover material off of the device that he already owns/has purchased previously, then I can't see the issue.
