With the car on the floor, if you grab the tops of the rear wheels and pull, do you feel some movement?

sounds like "saw toothing" caused by a worn shock

Also as Dan says I'd check the UCAs too as they won't be helping the problem

yes thats the knocking when i pull the top of the wheel it dont knock when driving along i have a humming noise like a bearing so i gave them both a tug and felt the knock and jacked it up to look no leaks/oil from the shocks visable and cant really see any obviose worn bushes the bearings are ok (but found a siezed rear caliper fixed it no difference)so ive put it down to cheap tyre droning like a few post have said and the ride seams fine no noticable swayying or twitching ive only had it 3 weeks so my first real chance to look at it in the day with work and a a spinal op 2 days after i got it so making the most while i can over the weekend

Sounds like the upper control arms then, they do cause the tyre(s) to wear uneven, almost bobbly which will cause a droning noise.

My LH side rear shock had no signs of leaks or oil either. However when I took it off there was approx 3" of travel before it did anything when I compressed it. The RH one was fine. I compressed both together at the same time, side by side and allowed them to rise back up of their own accord. The LH one jumped back up when it got to approx 3" from the top, the RH one rose steadily all the way throughout its travel.

Best thing to do is undo the bottom nut and see how easy the shock will compress by hand and then make sure it dampens throughout all its travelling distance when you let go.
