    confused calling fifers! help needed!

    hey guys!

I have a engine check light appear on my last night when i was driving, done the pedal test and it showed P0301 misfire in cylinder 1, also the engine is shaking a lot when idling. I'm ruling out spark plugs because I changed them very recently, suspecting coil pack, this is why I'm starting this thread, wondering if anyone is free and will to let me use their coil pack very quickly to see if it changes the way the engine runs before I fork out the money on something that I didn't need?

any tips on what it may be and a lend of a pack will be much appreciated

Rule out the spark plug by swapping them around, reset the fault code and start it up.

Vehicle : Mk1 renault scenic... I know I know but it drives

    Trim : Basic

    Engine : 1.6 16v

    Year : 2003

    Pull coil pack off.

dont rule out plugs until thrive physically been checked.

If ok put spark in coil.

Use small piece of wire or press spark thread against engine block to ensure its earthed.

get someone to crank it. If you see a spark then coil is firing.

I have a 1.8VVT (Z18XER) coil pack that's dead on cyl 3 if you want to try it (see my post about spitting out spark plugs!). I'm in Polmont (Falkirk) if it's any use to you?

Thanks for the reply, but I've took the coilpack and spark plugs out for inspection and looked like cylinder one has not been fired at all judging by the plug looking like new (woops). So I done the test Critch suggested and the plug was not firing in the first cylinder, and was with the others.. That confirmed that it was the coilpack =] New one was bought and fitted, car runs perfect now, thanks for all the help guys!!
