Default Definitely wont be buying NCT5's

Just about to buy some new tyres and was just looking at this and cant belive the poor score rating of the Vx standard fit 17" tyre:

The Goodyear Eagle NCT5 tyre is a long life tyre with a high quality drive experience. This tyre is built for motorway and general driving. Some say the driving in the wet can be a little slippy as the tyre has a hard compound hence its extended life. Its main competitor is probably the Pirelli P6000. It is the perfect tyre for long mileage but its performance capabilities are in question.
    Life: 4.5 out of 5
    Handling: 2.5 out of 5
    Noise: 3 out of 5

Looks like the one to get are Toyo Proxes T1-R . Think I'll be giving them a go....
A few people have said how good these are.

How do these all of these tyres compare to Michelin. I have always had Michelin's up until now when the standard Bridgestone Potenza tyres were fitted to my Vectra which need changing after 20k. I found that I used to get around 50-65k from Michelin Pilot Primacy and the handling was excellent.

    Good Year 215/50 R17 XL 95W
I have these fitted to my Vectra
    Cost £133
    Fitted £138

    My preferred choice is :
Michelin MX MXM 225/45 R17 XL
However, they are only rated at 94Y

The nearest I can find is :
Michelin Primacy HP 215/50 R17 EL 95W Rim protection
    Cost £140

I am going to wear out the fronts, then start swapping and compare

I have NCT5's on the Fronts at the moment, and I have experienced some major understeer problems with them, and thats not just in the wet, any tight corners at speed and they do have a tendancy to understeer on me, especially when they are cold.

Well my NCT5's (fitted from new I guess) now need replacing at 16K!! And according to the blurb above they are a long lasting tyre . I know others have had to change them at similar mileage too.
Vx must get them very cheap I expect, that why they put them on as standard fit from new. I can think of no other reason...

I'm very impressed with the Contis on my 19s. Very good life span and perform well.

just put 2 avon ZV3 XL 215/50/17 on the front cost was £160 all in great value for 2.

was offered 2 NCT5s for £218 all in at charlie browns.

i was going to buy from the web but after buying from web most wanted to charge £10 per tyre to fit plus £1.50 disposil £2 valve £3 balance all per tyre. so in the end it worked out cheaper than buying off web.

I have Michellin Primacy's all round and the front are due replacement soon at 18k miles. They have been very good, I had the NCT5's on previously and found them to be ok but not nearly as good as the Primacy's.

I'll be getting another pair of them in about 2/3 k miles
