    Default White Sidelight Bulbs

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has upgraded there sidelight bulbs to ones that look more white. I have xenons on my GSi and don't like the yellow glow that comes from the sidelights against the brilliant white light from the xenons. I saw a car the other day with just sidelights on and they were so white. Was thinking of maybe going for some Philips Blue Vision bulbs, but i don't want to be dissapointed, anyone tried and tested them?

What type of bulb are they 501 (w5w's)? I don't fancy going out to have a look now!

    Cheers

    Russ

I put a set of Philips BlueVision Ultra Blue sidelights in. They certainly don't look visibly blue to me but I'm not sure if they're meant to look blue!! They do look white if that's any help.

    They are W5W BTW

Yeah, its the whiteness that i'm after, the standard yellowish sidelights against the xenons look rubbish when your close up.

i've been thinking about replacing the sidelight bulbs with some LED's, because the difference between the two really lets down the look of the front end.

not sure how road legal these would be though, doubt if they are.

    ebay sell plenty of them.

If you put LED`s in then you will get a bulb check error every time you put tje ignition key in, or so I was told ?

I had the PIAA LEDs in my old GSi and they looked excellent.

I've currently got the Philips Blue Vision W5W's in my 3.2 cos LEDs give a Check bulb error as Bainie rightly mentioned. You can get a resistor which you crimp in series on the lighting circuit to increase the load and so fool the ECU, but I don't like the idea of doing this.

If you want to, you can find it at www.ultraleds.co.uk

BTW, the Philips bulbs are whiter and better than the standard "yellow" bulbs you currently have, but because they are only 5W they aren't as white as the LED look, if you know what I mean!?

I ordered 2 sets of the silver indicator lamps from powerbulbs and got a set of the ultra blue sidelights for free. They do give a nice white light and would probably be a good match for the xenons. Go for them, I say.
