    Default 225/50/r17 instead of 215/50/r17

Has anyone used 225/50/r17 tyres instead of the standard 215/50/r17 on the sri?

I know that 225/45/r17 is also a recommended size so was think the 225/50/r17 should be ok and they are cheaper than the 215/50/r17...

    thoughts?

235/45/17 is the closest in size to 215/50/17 and they seem to be a good bit cheaper. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

This subject always causes arguments but personally I wouldn't go beyond 1% difference.

Make sure you get a rim protector (oh err) and re-calibrate the BC

17" wheels are 7 or 7.5J so I wouldn't go any higher than 225 wide. I dunno why you would need rim protectors with rubber that wide?
