    Default cold morning driving

    can someone help me....

I had this problem about a month ago when we had a cold spell but sorted itself out once the weather warmed up slightly. this morning the temperature was -2.5 when I left for work.. only when I start the car in the cold I have this problem where my rev, Speedo, fuel and temperature gauge drops to zero the battery and abs light come on but I can still drive. is this a battery fault and it's the cars way of saving battery power??

This maybe a shot in the dark but it sounds like a problem i had last winter. I was driving then all the clocks went off had to stop then restarted and it was fine.. But it kept happening so i found on here that some times cleaning the contacts on fuse 17 would fix this issue. It did! Well for me any way. Good luck...

Alternator? Too much draw going through it as you have all the electrics running? Heaters etc... batteries dont like the cold. Just starting it takes a fair bit of effort.

Once the engine is running it no longer uses the battery as all the juice is supplied by the alternator.

If the battery light comes on whilst the engine is running, then it's usually an indication of a failing/failed alternator as the car will have to use the battery, thus flattening it.

If the car starts up ok (Not slowly turning over etc) then that would indicate the battery is ok.

I would either measure the voltage from the alternator or have it checked by an auto electrician if you don't want to get your hands dirty

I have this exact issue at the moment! I'll also try cleaning the fuse. I also read the ABS sensor can cause this - anyone have any ideas?
