    Default A 'Wheelie' Small Update!

    November 2012

After 2 years of service, the 18's were removed this afternoon and the replacements fitted.

As the car has not turned a wheel since 23rd September, she was rolled out of the garage to have the new wheels fitted.

I still love the 18's but fancied a change.

Also, as I was looking to re-create the OPC prototype from back in 2002, I sourced a set of early spec Zafira GSi 17" alloys.

Unfortunately one turned out to be the later flatter type, so I had to order a new one.

My good friend Darren then re-furbed all four, and fitted these :-

    4 x Toyo Proxy T1-R's in correct 215 40 17" size.

    Then on they went!

I think the VXR brakes really fill out the 17" wheel!

Here are the 18's removed and now in storage!

After two years, the tyres, which are falken 452's still have just under 8mm tread on the rears, and the fronts have 6mm tread and the spare which is a continental has 6mm!

Some may say it is a come down, but the reason I got rid of the original GSi wheels, was because they were the later flat type and didn't look right.

I prefer the more pronounced early type!

Don't ask what it drives like with them as I havent driven it due to being SORN. I will have to wait until 1st April 2013 to find out!

Very nice. They really suit the car. Are the twin tops going to stay in storage or make an appearance on a for sale forum any time soon?

Have to say I preferred the 11 spokes bud, more classy and conservative IYKWIM?

They are not Twin Top wheels. They are proper Astra G fitment in ET45 offset. Twin top versions are ET37 and Vectra C versions ET41. They may be put up for sale, but I am in no rush.

If I do decide to sell, you would be looking at around £700/£760 as they are as rare as hens teeth. Vectra C and Astra Twin Top versions are worth alot less, so I would not expect a Vectra owner to pay this amount for these.

Your 100% right, the 18's do give the car a classier and conservative look. But if I keep both sets, I can swap and change!

Call me stupid, but what does IYKWIM mean?

Both look good, but have to say the 18s just have the edge for me. As you say though, if you are keeping both sets you can chop and change as you please.

Cheers. I like them both, the 17's make it look more sporty, and the 18's more grown up and elegant!

I just love this car and everything you do to it. Kepp up the top work...can't be much else you can do to it surely? for me maybe a tailgate spoiler would be the finishing touch..
