    Default 53 Plate Vectra

Hey guys, I've had my Vectra a year or so now and have only ever had 1 problem which was the brake lines rusting so I had to have them all replaced. The other day I was driving along and heard this rather loud scraping coming from the back of the car. After getting out to check the wheel arches etc I couldn't find anything. So I took it to the local garage and found out my rear discs and pads need replacing, 1 of my shock absorbers had "exploded" (their words) and 1 of my suspension arms had gone. I also needed two new tyres. The quote for this was £800 all in which this close to Christmas I don't have. I've done some minor repairs on cars myself before, replacing pads, wind screen washer motors starter motor etc and i'm looking certainly to do the discs and pads myself. From reading around it looks like i'm going to need a wind in tool for the piston but is there anything else I need a heads up for? Also would the shocks or arms be do'able as a DIY project or do they need compressing in any way? (For some reason my return key, new line isn't working on this forum? So apologies for the big block of text.) P.S do I have to replace the Shocks and Arms in Pairs?

You'd be better off asking your questions in the relevant sub forums as this one is just for introducing yourself (the clue is in the name) and you'll hopefully also get more visiting traffic from members who might be able to answer your questions.

    Welcome, btw.

Thanks, should've known better really, acting like this is my first forum! How about a proper intro. . . . . . . I'm 21 and I'm very pleased with my current 53 plate Vectra that I own. I've have had nothing but problems with my small car history, S reg Clio - Clutch went wasn't worth repairing, 55 Plate Astra - Immobiliser / Starter Motor / Battery / Crank Sensory Vauxhall couldn't tell me and wanted £3,000 + to fix it, had to cut my losses and sell it on, Y Reg Hyundai Coupe - actually to be fair this treated my quite well the only issue was my age and insurance! Then I have a Focus Saloon which I has all sorts of suspension and exhaust problems and now my lovely Vectra, which in comparison has been a dream! I've always been interested in cars and wish I knew more about them as by nature i'm fascinated with taking things apart and putting them back together again. I've always wanted to just spend £200 or so on a car from the auctions and just have it as my play car to repair and gain experience on and if I completely screw it up well it's only £200. Other than cars I love IT, I currently work as a Developer in Leicester (travelling 120 miles a day) so my car is essential to me. I have joined for help with repairing my car but hope to stick around as it looks like a very active forums with some friendly members! . . . . . . . .(but seriously is there no return button on this forum lol I hate big blocks of text)

    Ahhhhh that's much better!

Looks like my web browser. I've upgraded to a BETA copy of IE10, obviously this is one of the bugs.
