My ICE Install. Set Up/Settings Advice?

hi folks. i blew my amp up recently, so went all out and purchased a high end one. reading through my manual it says that the sub should be rated higher than the amp? but ive got a 1400w sub, and a 1800w amp will this cause any problems?. i just cant seem to able to get my sub as loud as my previous crappy amp. ive got a million settings on my head unit, and im sure with a bit of advice from the nice people on here i will be able to get the most out of my system. here is what ive got:

everything is installed nice and neatly by myself, its all up and running. i like my music really LOUD, but im a big fan of CLARITY too.

i was hoping someone would be able to help me through the xover bit? i just dont get what it does, and what setting to keep it as? on my HU i can set up my xover on both my front, rear and subwoofer. but what setting do i keep it on? currently ive just got it on "through"

any help, advice & tips will be much appreciated. thanks for your time.

What box have you got your sub in ? What type of music do you listen to ? What is running the front speakers amp/headunit ?

my head unit powers all 4 door speakers and tweeters.

i listen to all sorts of music, mainly RNB, but sometimes i love my DNB, NICHE music, very bassy. im an all rounder lol.

The sub and box you have are not ideal for the sort of music you listen to, ideally you want a good ported box around 2.5cuft tuned to about 32htz. You also need a sub capable of dropping that low in the frequency range, for a cheap but good sub I'd recommend a jbl gt5 12" sub, I've seen these things do amazing stuff for around £40-50 per sub.
The speakers you have will be ok off the headunit crossed over at around 60-80htz but ideally you would have an amp running the front speakers aswell.
Im sorry to put a downer on the equipment you have bought but its not really ideal for the sort of SQL system you want. My advice would be have a nose on www.talkaudio.com and see what they say.

As a temporary fix I'd say crossover the front speakers around 60-100htz just make sure there not distorting, crossover the rears a bit higher 120-160htz and have the sub at around 60-80htz so it overlaps slightly on the frequency range, that should reduce the ammount of bass going to the door speakers allowing them to go a little louder without distorting and it will allow just the bass to be played by the sub that should improve the sound quality for now.

or simply make sure the phase is correct on the sub if theres not a switch on the amp then swap the speaker wires over thats usually the case with a sub under performing

Thanks for your input guys. I read the instructions on my sub, & as far as I knew I had the right volume box. I don't like ported boxes, I prefer the sound from a sealed box. This sub was incredibly loud with the use of my old amp, I'm sure I can get it back up to that level. I think I have used the wrong ports for the sub speaker wire, will swap this over tonight if poss. Thanks for the advice on the cross over frequencies. Will set them up as soon as I can & get back to you guys. Cheers.

For the sort of music you listen to I'd recommend a ported box. What is it specifically that you don't like about a ported box ? They will produce a much lower deeper bass response and will be louder yet still capable of keeping the quality there.

How did you get on with those crossover points ?

hiya mate. ive decided to run the door speakers on "through" and same with the sub. ive got the sub amp on 90hz ish. and the bass boost on max. its starting to come alive now. ive kept the equalizer on the HU on natural, and if i feel as if i need more bass or less bass i use the functions on the HU to increase or decrease the level. the clarity is still there, and i am now happy with how its sounding. thanks for all your help and input though, i have defo learnt alot, and it has been very valuable for me. much appreciated.

Do yourself a favour and crossover the speakers, they make a huge difference as you will only give the speakers the frequencies they can play instead of wasting power on frequencies they cant play.

You shouldn't need your bass boost at all, are you 100% sure you have your sub wired at 2ohm as that amp should be more than capable.
