    Default Replacement springs question

    Hi all

My Vec is at the main Vx dealer today having a fault diagnosed, they have just called to say that I have a broken front spring.

I have a used car warranty from the place I bought it (a Nissan main dealer) which apparently they can claim on - but only for one spring . I'm going to pay for the other one myself.

The warranty company have instructed the dealer to use a non-Vauxhall part to reduce cost but on speaking to the dealer it's a brand they use all the time without issue - I'm not sure of the exact brand.

My car is only a 1.8 exclusiv ('06) so am I correct in thinking this is ok as the main dealer is supplying and fitting it? I don't have sports suspension as far as I know so I guess it should be ok but I want the car to sit correctly and handle as normal.

Anyone have any advice on this? Would this part be ok or should I try to get genuine Vx springs?

    Cheers

You should always replace springs in matched pairs - as you are doing - I don't think Vauxhall originals are any better than a good quality aftermarket one, I fitted a pair of KYB springs on the front of my 1.9cdti estate and when I compared them to the ones I replaced (which I believe were originals) the coils were nearly half as thick again. Been on two years without any problems. Do you know what brand they are fitting?

Hi, not yet - I'll find out tomorrow. Is there a standard brand the dealerships use aside from the Vx originals?

The Vx ones are more expensive but if there isn't any difference then that's great. I can appreciate an SRI etc needing specific Vx parts but with mine being a standard car I'm hoping it will be ok with the ride and the height the car sits at etc

If they are fitting a matched pair you shouldn't have any problem with the height or handling - and if they are being fitted professionally you should get 12 months warranty on the parts and work they have done.
