    Default Oil In The Water

Just a note to add to the section.

I've just had oil residue floating in the header tank, I thought head gasket, but after going in for repair it was the heat exchanger, car is a 2.0DTi and the unit sits just between the oil filter and the engine.

Symtoms as well as the oil, were when I emptied the bottle the water looked like it was from a bubble lamp, the engine still ran fine and the bottle had emptied itself.

HTH if anyone else encounters it.

Default Oil In The Water - Its a common problem

Hi VauxVeteran, you'll find quite a few of us have had similar problems with oil going into the cooling system and causing some major problems. I have a Vectra CDX 3.2 V6 and had similar problems with the Oil Inter-cooler failing and dumping oil into the coolant and coolant into the oil. Watch out for subsequent automatic transmission problems as this usually happens shortly after. Its bad design and bad manufacturing which results in major repairs with a major price tag so hope you are still under warranty. Regardless push the issue with Vauxaul / Opel as they know it their fault and they have to fix it.
