Default Power loss, potentially auxiliary belt?

Hi, been having a few power issues fairly recently and after changing the coil pack, spark plugs and cleaning the throttle body most of the power has come back but still there's a slight issue, a clue as to what it was showed it's self whilst on a long journey the other night. It was very wet and constantly raining and almost every time I hit a puddle, especially at low revs, I'd hear a squeal and felt a slight loss in power, like something was restricting it, I'd been feeling this loss of power before but had no clue as to what it was, no sound, nothing, all I'd been doing was to back out of the throttle slightly and found that would sometimes cure it. I'd definitely say it's the auxiliary belt but exactly what it's doing I don't know, I have no electrical issues, power steering is fine and it cools properly. I have been seeing a warning light come up on the dash for some time now on start up or briefly when leaving traffic lights but after a few seconds of moving it goes so my guess is something isn't turning properly, maybe it's due to a worn belt? if anyone has any ideas on this, and I'm guessing it's possibly a change of belt/pulleys/water pump then I'm all ears, indeed if you have experienced this then what was the cure or exact problem you found?

    Thanks, Andy.

I would check the auxillary belt and the tensioner / pulley first off

Well first off check that the belt is tight on the pulleys - try pushing it down between in a length of belt between two pulleys and there should only be a very small amount of movement when pressure is applied. I would then remove the belt and check the condition of the belt to see if any signs of wear or parts of the ribs on the belt are missing or damaged, and that it has not stretched. I'm not sure on the 1.8 but on the 1.9 diesel the tensioner for the belt is a spring loaded pulley - check that that is operating correctly and giving the correct tension to the belt. I'm sure 1.8 owners will correct me if the tensioner is different on this model. Hope that helps for starters.
