    Default Thermostat problem

    I think I have a faulty thermostat.

Temp gauge will only move when stuck in traffic and when driving along normal even on motorway will either return or remain at zero.

    It's a 1.8 vvt with 65k.

Should I replace the whole thermostat unit.?

    Thanks.

Mine was similar, when I enquired you can only change the full unit as stat is built into housing. I paid £65 ish and it sorted my problems.

I need to change mine, although I am tempted to see if I can just change the thermostat in the unit?? When I get some time off, I will strip it out and take it to my local motor factors to see if they can match it?

When I bought mine from VX I showed him a price I had found on the net and he price matched in fact I think he did cheaper.

If I remember rightly when I took the housing off the stat is controlled or monitored electrically and not like the old wax stats I remember. If you buy the VX one least you know its right and it has the housing ,gasket and sensor (wot ever it my be) this is not the temp sender as this is mounted further back along with yet another sensor.

I tried to search for info regarding if the stat did work as above electronically but couldn't find anything, seemed a but of a grey area.

Anyways mine now warms quickly and sits 90/92 ....

    Cheers

I replaced mine earlier in the year. I've a 1.8vvt. From what I know you can't just change the stat. I got the whole unit, £65 from Vauxhall and used the how2 on here. Simple enought to do, just take your time.

your thermostat has broke you need the whole housing 65 pounds from vauxhall only buy genuine vauxhall thermostat

the thermostat gauge will read between 86-89 and stay there thats when you get the new one fitted

its a common fault on the vectra c mine broke around 53000 miles

Thermostat all fixed, found a new genuine vx on eBay for £45. Just fitted it along with a antifreeze change. Temperature gauge is working and heater is getting warm much faster which is needed in this weather.
