Default Handbrake light on when its off!

So far this week, the handbrake light stays on when driving. I checked to see if summat was wrong. Car moves freely and no braking on rear. Is there another meaning to the handbrake light to stay on whilst driving?

The light is also a low level warning light for the brake and clutch fluid.

Best you RTFM to see what the other warning lights on the dash represent.

    Yep.

The guys at the garage killed the front left pipe's thread, so they had to have a new one made (it's not a part, look a the Vx catalog, they sell the pipe by 6 m lengths, really funny ), and the guy who made it, made it wrong. Brake fluid was leaking from the ABS module, where the pipe was screwed on. They had to make a new pipe again...

If nothing has been modified on your brakes, then you'll have to check the hoses and brakes bleeders. Maybe a bolt or bleeder hasn't been tightened correctly last time your pads were changed, or one of the hoses may be pierced.

I changed all of them for inox braided teflon ones when I upgraded my brakes to 314 mm + 292 mm. Rubber ones just can't stand the heat we have here, I didn't want to take any risk, and the car is going to be 10 years old soon. I even took full inox hoses including the fittings (Goodridge), as zinc plated steel never, well, stays zinc plated forever, and always ends up rusty sooner or later.

Its the low fluid warning light BUT before you worry about hoses leaking check if your pads/ discs need replacing!

My light came on, so topped it up, couple weeks later had to change the front pads (and discs) then ended up bleeding off the extra fluid I had put in as it was now over filled!!

Interesting, no brakes been touched since last service last year august. Pads all a plenty, no bleed or leaks so must be low level.

Weirdly, when been driving, stop, engine off, 5 minutes later back to car and driving, light goes out. Wife got car for the day. So will look at level when she's home. Is the bottle on right (driver side) back?

Cheers for your replies guys :-)

    You're just to the limit.

In a few days, it'll stay always lit...

Honestly, I never had to put even a drop of brake fluid in, before that incident happened. Same for the coolant liquid, actually. The conclusion is : there's something unusual to worry about. You should search for a leak somewhere before you need to emergency brake and nomething nasty happens.

Fluid was just above minimum! So topped it up. Dont know how long it been, so topped it up, pumped brakes and retest level. Holding at the max, no leaks visable anywhere. I know fluid can be lost over time but dont mean leaks.

All ok now. Thanks for telling me fluid need checking. I didnt realise it meant check level as well . :-)
