Default Auto trans gear changing slip

My 2003 Vectra C 3.2 V6 has the 5sp auto box and since I bought the car 2 years ago at 110,000km on reasonably warm days after a lengthy drive of 100km+, the next time the auto goes from 2nd to 3rd gear, the auto potentially goes into "no mans land" for a split second and revs 1000rpm+ more than it should. This has only occurred around 10 times over the 60,000km I've put on the car it but the fact that it actually happens worries me.

    Is this a common issue?

I've had the same problem with my GSi a few times. It usually happens to me under heavier acceleration from 2nd to 3rd after the kick down.

Always worth doing a fluid change.

Cheers for the replies. Mine never slips under heavy acceleration, more so mild around town style driving. That said I don't push it hard all that often. It is starting to do it again because the weather is heating up again in Aus, it never worries me below 25 degrees Celsius which puzzles me even more. In the end I can put up with it as is, just as long as it doesn't do damage or get stuck in neutral.

I changed the fluid last Xmas and that basically fixed it but now the hot weather has made it start again.

    Haha, that could work :P
Would make the car cheaper to run too. I'll see how it turns out, if it gets worse I may have to have a look at it but if it doesn't I will be putting up with it for a while.

I had exactly same problem guys. VX eventually removed the auto gearbox on mine and replaced the torque converter and the valve block. Its stopped it a lot and somewhat changed how the problem shows itself but it does occassionally recur. Needless to say i am still in arguments with them to get my money back. Very annoying problem tho.

It sounds like your ATF is overheating and therefore not able to perform correctly. If this is happening, your box is slowly but surely being damaged. Get an aftermarket cooler fitted asap and do a full ATF change / flush. The factory fit cooling is far from adequate (this applies even more in hot climates) and is one of the main reasons so many Vectra auto boxes fail so early!
