    Default 2.2 Direct

    Hi all,

recently converted from a 3.2 Omega to a 2.2 Vectra.

Just curious as to what it means by "Direct".

The insurance company asked me if it was an Elite or Elite Direct?

I'm no techie so be gentle with your explanations, lol.

    Cheers

    Vehicle : SRi

Direct fuel injection mate. The older 2.2's engine code is Z22SE and he Direct is Z22YH. The Direct was fitted on Vectra C's from 54 plate onwards and fitted to all Signum's and Vectra Estates regardless of reg/year.

An easy way to find out is all Direct's have twin exhaust's where as none directs have a single.

    HTH mate.

EDIT: looking at your profile you have a Direct (06)

Yep, I def have the direct model, lol. It shouts it across the back tailgate, 2.2 Direct!

Ok, so it's direct fuel injection. Forgive my lack of knowledge, but I thought all fuel injected engines were "direct"?

Love the car, except its a smaller cabin than my Omega and a tadge gutted that it doesn't show the twin pipes out the back, but hidden behind the bumper

Thanks for the info, much appreciated

The fuel is injected "Directly" into the Cylinder rather than into the intake.

until the **** fuel pump decides to throw a hissy fit and doesnt want to inject it anymore
if you want the exhausts sticking out the back, get an sri bumper and the sri backboxes, the bumper has cutouts, and the tipss of the exhausts are chrome. got a pic here from the car i am breaking if you want to see what it looks like. i am going to fit them to our 1.8 when it stops raining lol

Stuff like that can happen to any car!

The omega's are prone to crank sensor failures

I had a 2.2i direct on an 04 plate so they came in a little earlier. Mine suffered 3 fuel pump failures in 18 months. A VERY expensive issue. So prone to the problem that Watchdog made an episode about it. Mine failed the original and 2 of the alleged re-designed pump. Traded the car away for a diesel as I had no confidence in travelling anywhere without the spanner coming on and the car going into limp mode.

That said, it was a beautifully smooth car and very well balanced at the front. Sharp precise steering over the diesel. I guess only the SRI upwards came with twin visible pipes then.

my 2.2 direct is now having a few problems with fueling, hpfp, regulator or sensor (dont think its the hpfp) however, if i have to replace any of these parts i will keep all recipets, and should any of these new replacement parts fail within a year or two, i will purse the trader all the way using the sale of goods act to obtain free replacements.
