Default Looking for something plug n play to replace cdr2005

I've just bought an 04 1.8 sri which has a cdr2005 and the orange screen on top. 6 buttons on steering wheel which from reading here means its half can (right)?

I'm a complete noob but I want to replace the head unit with something plug n play that will handle radio/cd/dvd/aux/usb and sat nav. I also want to be able to keep control with the wiper stick buttons. Can anyone recommend a cheap plug n play unit (< £200) that can do all this? Is it really just a matter of taking the cdr2005 out and plugging a new one in?

Also is it possible to upgrade the orange screen to a colour screen?

Colour screen not worth the effort/cost especially if your not having the Cd70 unit (no aux/usb). I bought my 04 DTi with an aftermarket head unit. It's some cheap Sendai cd player I think. It's got AUX though so I connect my iPod to it. My steering controls don't work though. You can get some head units with adapters that make your steering wheel controls work. I'm not bothered though. I've got the orange screen with trip computer so I can use the stalk to see the mpg, range and what have you.

    Hope that helps.

my sri i have just bought comes with an alpine headunit and i have to say the sound quality even with just standard speakers is stunning, you will have to buy an apapter fascia to convert the large hole to a single din one

what i did, bought an kenwood mp3 player with aux in, single din fascia , autoleads conversion for the steering control and that was it.
It was not me though who changed all this, it was someone from a company in Finsburry (i don`t remember the name ). It works great, the sound crisp, the controls are working. I even use it to connect my phone trough a stereo cable (mounted on the windshield) and use it as a hands free. And i still can use the orange screen to see the mpg and all the other stuff.
I wanted a color screen as well, but as i read here, it not worth the money and the time !!!

Does your kenwood show the cd/radio info on the GID?

Nope it should not show information from an aftermarket headunit.

I believe that there are some Opel / Vauxhall / GM specific head-units from Hong Kong / Taiwan / China that can be linked to the display, but I know people have had massive trouble getting them to link-up... getting the head-unit to operate the display.
