Looking for a bit of help on a vibration that is driving me nuts.
When I get to 65mph I start to pick up a noticeable vibration through the steering wheel. It is still evident up to 80mph (when I tested it on a private road) and I can feel a slight vibration at speeds above 80 (again on the private road).
Background: Just before Christmas I had to get two new tyres fitted on the front (Hankook’s - not quite budget but certainly lower grade than I would normally put on her). The originals needed to be replaced quickly - one just legal and a puncture in the other.
I have had them balanced 4 times and I am now happy that the balancing is OK, which means the problem must be something else (Any balancing problem I have had in the past has been a narrow window 60 – 70 ish).
1st – When tyres fitted
2nd – Took back 1hr later when I notice they had balanced the wheel with original inside sticky weights on
3rd – Went to 1st Kwik Fit, 35g out on one wheel 15g out on the other
4th – Went to 2nd Kwik Fit (most recent) – 15g needed on both wheels
The above checks were done straight off the car – no bumps or bangs between checks (all weights still attached), just poor calibration of the machines.
Wheels and tyres checked, no obvious wobbles or flaws.
No noticeable noise from either side when loaded (hard turning) and the CV gators are in good nick.
Any other suggestion to check before I go back and tell the fitter that the tyres are cr@p.
