    Default suspension/steering part's limited life ???

the car has killed a pair of gen drumsticks in less than 5k /7 months and it's a pain in the arse, have been thinking about getting rid of the car full stop but just cant bring myself to do it so thinking wheel's are the better option, has anyone else had issues with 19'' wheels n steering / suspension parts going quickly or is it just me due to the amount of poxy speed ramps where i live....

seriously thinking about going back to 18'' wheels but not sure what to do for the best, there are gen GM drumsticks avv for 18'' wheel size according to vx but nothing for 19''

what to do, any input appreciated.....

so no one knows anything or hasn't suffered anything like this then ???

Any way after a bit more research and a good long chat with my VX parts mate today it seems GM make 3 different one's, for 16'' for 17'' and then from 18'' and these ''from 18'' are around £40.00 each +vat retail, they are a different part number to the others and i can get them a lot less than that but is is still worth it or do i get the better quality pattern part ones that come in at less that the discounted GM one's due to trade discount i have with this company and an unanswered question is are all suitable for my steering rack ???

Hi Rich, I've been looking at getting new tie-rods for mine as I've got play in one of the joints, pattern parts dont seem to distinguish between the wheels sizes so I'm assuming they are all for 17inch wheels. I'm going to stick with genuine 18" plus versions, I've only been running on 17"s since i had the estate but seb clocked up PLENTY of mileage on 18's before me. I'm only changing now due to being run off the road and knocking one of them... Also consider the show. Been on 19's all its life, used for work for 2 years covering about 45k over speedbumps most of the day, only changed them this year due to an advisory on the MOT and I misread it as tie-rods when it was tie-rods ends lol. hope this helps your question

cheer's deano, i think i am going to have to do do a comparision with oem and pattern parts with part numbers and manufacturers as the guy's i speak to can find out a pletherer of info when required lol, you never know what will turn up as sometimes a GM sticker add's a good few quid lol

I'm having issues with my Tie rods too, glad i've seen this thread as I didn't know there were options with wheel size.
Just makes if more confusing as I run 18"'s most of the year and 16"'s in winter.

As for genuine parts only lasting 7months, they have a 12month warranty, have a word with your parts man and see what they say. Personally genuine, bought from a dealer, i'd be kicking up a fuss.
    Are they easy to replace?

i didnt realise there were different one's until i found them on the new french opel parts site and had spoken to DAN at smiths who confirmed it, the thing is these were not from my usual parts man and dealer as they didnt have em in stock so used a closer dealers to get em from that and i cant find my invoice for them anywhere which is strange as i keep all invoices/receipts for the vectra or i would have kicked of already believe me, as for doing them, they are pretty easy to fit and you are more than capable enough to do em mate tbhm must easier on a 2 post ramp and need's to be tracked up afterwards so i got a mate to fit n track for me in 1 hit hth

    update on this...

eventualy got my hands on a pair of from 18'' wheel's tie rods yesterday, delphi one's and yes a pattern part but £36.46 inc vat for the pair and at that price i cant grumble as it's cheaper than one gen vx one retail price, anyway had them fitted today and the one's removed the offside one was very loose compared to the nearside but another ''got to change in pairs'' item to me anyway, also fitted new gen vx disc n pad set as disc's were a little warped and on inspection 1 inner pad was badly scored so anal maybe but feel better knowing there is nothing wrong brake wise now, after tracking set up we also found where a clunk was coming from on initial pull off, bottom arm bush bolt not quite tight enough so movement from there, this was tightened winter wheel's on and a good inspection of everything else under and around the car to make sure it's set for winter, after a half decent run and all is good and i am happy again and feel i can trust the car more with an iminent trip to kent coming up, so thats that really, i am happy for now lol
