I know it may sound a silly question but can you just fit lowering springs but keep gm shocks? Any recommendations?

Yes you can. But if you are using GM shocks it is advised you don't use springs that lower your car more than 40-45mm. Any Lower than that & you will need sports lowered shocks.

A lot of members use Eibach. I'm on Apex. All depends on how low you want to go really. A few members lower the front more than the rear so the car looks more even. Eg -45mm drop on front, and -40mm drop on rear.

as the shocks will wear out faster

I have fitted eibach springs (-30mm) and kept the standard GM shocks on my SRi, a great combination in my opinion. Pictures are in my garage.

40/45mm on original shock for nearly 3yrs now... Anyone that's had issues must have already had a weakness in the shocks that's only shown up after lowering IMO.

I had mine in the ramp when i did my brake upgrade a few weeks ago and my front shocks are leaking a bit now so will be investing in coilovers after christmas.my car is lowered at least 40mm on standard shocks(was lowered by previous owner)if i had done it i would have fitted uprated shocks to cope better.
