Default Problem accelerating up hill...high revs

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could help with this.
Yesterday on my way home from work my '04 2.0ltr Vectra C had a problem on a steep hill. I go up this hill with no problems every day (ish) so, I was a bit surprised when It started to struggle. It was like as soon as the revs got to almost 3K it seemed to lose power and the revs just hit the roof. It did it a few times and then seemed to settle in 3rd gear.

    Any idea's

It has got 114K miles on the clock but, it's usually quite sound.

    Cheers very much.
    Dave

First thing to do is check all of your vacuum pipe work the rubber joints perish and split. I would also check the boost/inlet and inter-cooler pipe work as these are also known to split. they can be hard to find as they expand when the car is booted/under boost. The above is a common fault with the dti and quitw a simple fix.

Is it manual or automatic, at that mileage it could be the clutch starting to wear? Does it do it on every steep hill or was it a one off occurence?

Thanks for the replies guys! It's a manual John and this is the first time its happened. I'm gonna give it another run tomorrow and see how it goes.
Signum, is any of the above likely to be an expensive repair do you think?

Hope it is the vacuum pipes, as they are not expensive to change.

from the original post it sounds more like the clutch is away , mine did the same once or twice so I replaced the lot rather than wait for it to go all together & leave me stranded .

its not too expensive, I had mine changed at the same time I changed my dmf, there was nothing wrong with either just misdiagnosed by a vauxhall dealership for a change.

i only paid a couple of hundred quid to have it done, they do it with the engine in. They need to drop the NS subframe which enables them to remove the bell housing and get at the clutch etc. Not sure on clutch prices, i bought an original that was 'shop soiled' (it had a dirty box, oooerrrrr) for about £70.

If all of your pipe work comes back ok then with the over revving and no power lack of movement then I agree it could be the clutch on its way out. I would still check the hoses first as this is the cheapest fix. Once these have been ruled out move on to the next possibility.
Do you get a car spanner light when the car struggles to get up the hill?

Thanks again guys! I will get it all checked out I reckon. Bleeding car grrr! lol

Signum,-Steve, no dash lights came on at all when it happened but, the spanner (engine management?) light has always come on upon first start up of the engine for about 60 secs.
I spoke to loads of garages about this but they all said that unless the light stays on then there's nothing to worry about...could this be an indication to anything?

    Cheers
