    Default Rear Valance question

    Hi

I was recently in the middle (literally) of a 4 car shunt - stationery in a line of traffic when a numb-nut failed to stop. He hit a MINI behind me, pushing her into me into a BMW in front.

Thankfully, no-one was hurt but the Veccy had to go in for a new nose/rump job.

My question is, though I didn't intially spot it, the new rear bumper does not have the slotted plastic "grill" on the lower edge, like the original.

It looks fine but I wondered if the "grill" was part of any aerodynamic or functional design or just cosmetic e.g. to allow spec options such as twin tail pipes etc?

Car is a 2008 1.8 VVT SRI hatch.

    Cheers
    Phil

Sounds like they have put a bumper from an Elite on. You have an SRi so should have a Chrome tail pipe. So what have they done where the tail pipe exits the bumper? Pics would be good too.

    Hi Das

Still got the chrome tail-pipe (was not damaged) - attempting to include a picture (sorry, bit of a luddite).

Yup that's what they have done. They have not replaced like for like, and it could affect any resale of your car and the rear valance now no longer matches the side skirts too.

The minute they fitted that bumper and realised the exhaust exit wasn't there I bet they just tried to wing it, hope you wouldn't have noticed. They will replace it as the insurance company will stop payment as long as they haven't already paid them. When did you get the car back?

also probably turned out its a used bumper, you have the right to be put back in the position u uwas before the smash, so your entitled to a sri bumper, dont let anyone tell u any difference

On the 9th Nov - spoken to insurer who is going to call the repair company (the one they told me to use) on Monday. To be honest, it doesn't look like the exhaust exit has been bodged though chrome pipe is a bit closer to bodywork than original.

    Happy days.

Still waiting for repairer (Bodyshop manager) to get back to me but anticipate that they'll want me to take car back for them to look at (and I am guessing that they'll have disposed of my original bumper by now).

If that's the case, any chance someone with a 1.8 VVT SRI petrol (facelift) posting a picture of your lower rear bumper? I want to be able to show them that the original has a black plastic "grill" that goes round the tailpipe and extends across most of the lower edge (hope this makes sense).

    Thanks in advance.
    Phil
