    Default CDTi Fuel Filter

    Evening lads

    Going to sort my car out this Sunday hopefully, it's a couple of months over-due a service now.

    Wanting to do the fuel filter, though I can see that the lid can be a pig to get off.

    I don't fancy spending £45 on the Laser toolset to do it, do you think this would work;

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-LEG-2-WA...item2ec2e19a26

    I was thinking that + some form of thing for the filter to sit into while clamped into a vice to protect it?

    Or can you do this by hand?

    Cheers

    i bought the Sealey set which consisted of the filter holder and the unlocking clamp. Thought I might as well invest if i'm going to be doing a few here and there... All I need now is a nice work bench to be built (SRIDan where are you! ) and a big fackoff vice to be fitted on it.
    Plasma's Tech2 services are now open and able to provide services

    Oh I wish mate! I barely have the room for my tools let alone a decent work bench though I could take it in to work and use the vices in the wood work room!

    When i changed the fuel filter i used 2 quick release G clamps, one onto the body of the housing and one clamped onto the lid made for easy leverage

    That's a good idea... I'll give it a go tomorrow and see how far I get. If I fail then I'll get the local garage to sort it!

    Just done mine today, using the how2 on here (thanks for that), and used this oil filter wrench - there are cheaper ones but this happens to be the one I have. Very useful by the way as it fits all filter sizes.

    As the How2 - in a vice, but gently, no need to squeeze it, just stop it turning.

    Cheers! Might need to borrow a vice from somebody, and I think I know who!

    Will post with my result be it ordering a new filter housing from ebay, running away from it or success!
