    Default z18xer to z18xe

hi, ive been looking at a 2006 vectra vvti with a nakered engine (piston rings gone and bent con rod) think i could get it for £500. I have got a z18xe in my current car and was wondering if it would be a straight swap and what bits i would have to change etc. Thanks.

Everything is possible, its all about your depth of knowledge and your wallet. TBH a second hand Z18XER engine would cost you less than £500, I think that would be the easier option and less hassle.

yeah i noticed they werent that expensive but i thought why buy another engine when ive already got 1 and tbh i think the z18xe is more reliable. I would probably get it if it were a straight swap..

Engine, ECU, Loom, no doubt some amount of programming, All sounds simple, but what if it doesnt start? Not just an easy trip to your local VX dealer is it? Then youve got 2 cars not running.

Id buy the car, buy an engine, fit it for nothing and sell the car on for about £1900-£2000, or sell your own and keep the newer one.
