Question 3.0 v6 cdti coolant light on whilst drive..

    hi guys,

i cant seem to find any threads regarding my fault so i was wondering if any of you guys could give me some of your knowledge with the (06 plate, y30dt-3.0 v6 cdti) engine.

i have a coolant light problem were it only illuminates whilst under acceleration from a 30-70 just say then stays on, but if i drive round town running between 1.5/2.5 revs it doesn't come on.

my siggy temp normally runs between 85 & 92ish when in towns but stays at 85 on A roads no matter what style of driving.

as for the coolant level it tends to stay just above the cold/kalt mark..

    any ideas guys please?

am just dreading the gaskets on the way out or sumort.

The coolant system is probably blocked
The temperature gauge on mine rises to normal temperature after about 10 minutes and never moves thereafter
This also suggests the thermostat may have failed

Does your temperature gauge not even go up when stuck in heavy traffic? Mine occasionally does to just below 90 but only in heavy stop-start traffic, (probably just before the fan kicks in) or when re-genning!

The coolant level should rise above the cold mark when warm/hot. What's the level like when it's cold?

is it a hard job to bleed the system on this engine? and change the thermostat?

went to pick the misses up and the light came on whilst driving to her so thought ad check to see the level of the coolant and it was about an inch under the cold mark, after getting home left it to cool for a few hours and checked again and it was just below cold line, put around 200ml in which took it to about half inch above the cold line.

i will be doing a 15 mile trip soon so will see what happens if the light stays out, but i will check the level as well.

i don't think i have put to much water in the tank to over fill it or have i ?

Just to clear up is it coolant temp or level?

If it's a cm bellow cold then that might be enough to bring level light on

See if it drops to the cold level.
