    Default vectra 2.2dti hunting on idle. powerloss and smoke low revs.

    Hi, the problems started one after the other first the car broke down due to a dodgy MAF, the hotside to intercooler boost hose popped off and the EGR failed. I have replaced the EGR with new and the MAF with an after-market but not the car smokes noticeable at night time with occasional black smoke when it looses power this happens usually when cruising in 5th at between 12500 and 15000 revs, it also hunts every so often on idle and puffs a little smoke when it does. other than that it runs fine, starts from cold, mpg seems fine around 50 mpg down the motorway at 70. there is no mayo under the oil cap and the cooling system doesn't appear to be pressurised.

    ohh and when the car looses power between 12500 and 15000 revs and puffs black it will sometimes throw up an EGR fault code


    Any suggestions welcome before I rip off the turbo to inspect it or break down and cry to a mechanic.

    Hi m8 does your engine have the TP sensor on the inlet manifold or is it on the throttle pedal itself , just need to know as this is usually the source of the hunting tickover .
    Other problems could be a few things, split vacuum pipes , split in the intercooler hoses , inlet manifold and boost sensor needing a clean
    but firstly i would have the fault codes read that then give you an idea as to where to start looking
    if your not sure of your engines set up then post some pics of your engine bay we should be able to advise from there

    I'm not surprised it smokes at 12.5k to 15k revs lol (too many zeros?)

    I'd get a genuine MAF as aftermarket ones can cause issues. I've used an aftermarket cheapie on a previous car and it ran like a dog, changed for a bosh one and all is good. Other than checking intercooler hoses for splits etc, i'd start here.
