    Default Transferring numberplate

I bought a number plate off a guy off ebay and he sent me the rentention cert (V778) He has filled in part 6 and I have put my name in Part 2

Do I just put my address in Part 4 (Grantees change of details)?

    Cheers

Check the DVLA website, or ring their helpline. No doubt there will be a transfer fee.

After holding for 25mins yesterday I gave up and on the DVLA website it only refers to a different cert! Its £25 to transfer it over

i think , if you put your name on his certificate as the nominee ,

it may be returned back to him , so he can then gift it to you .

You are the Nominee and for now you shouldn't really touch the grantee ( his ) bit .

If you change his address & name , as the grantee to yours , then the D.V.L.A. might wonder why the present owner has changed everything without going through the nominee process .

I may be wrong and stand to be corrected .

I sold a private plate a few years ago , and after i received payment , i sent the retention certificate with the buyers name in the nominee box to the D.V.L.A. and the certificate came back to me ,

when it was returned , the buyer was stilll the nominee , not the grantee ( owner )
luckily for the new owner , i am honest and forwarded it on to them .

Maybe the Nominee can only revert it back as a Grantee certificate once they have placed it on their own vehicle and then take it off to be put on a certificate .

Thanks for the replies from what I can gather you only become the grantee when you put it on your car until that point even if you buy it you are only the nominee if it remains on the retention cert. So if the grantee wanted even after selling it as it still remains in his name he could still use it!

So the seller could have just posted the retention certificate to the d.v.l.a. for you ?

But , i guess he posted it to you , for you to post , to show that the item is real after you had given him the cash .

    P.S.

How did you pay for a plate on Ebay ?

    was it PayPal ?

I want to sell one of my plates , but i refuse to use PayPal as it's awkward getting your money back instantly , without charges .

Do you think an Ebayer would send me a cheque and once it is cleared , i would send the retention certificate to the new owner or the d.vl.a. ?

I struck a deal with him £300 through paypal and ebay on a Buy it Now and another £150 through paypal as "other" but detailed it as extra money for the number plate ********

He then posted me the Rentention doc which I filled out and then posted on. He will then send me the certificate once he gets it with me as a nominee

I used Paypal as a buyer because it covers me and there I can prove payment. He wanted more for the plate but we dealt at a lower price so he did not have to pay higher fees

I would only pay though paypal otherwise there is no comeback
