    Default How to replace Stereo

Hi, Not sure if I am in the right place here, I was wondering if someone could guide me on how to replace my existing 53 plate standard stereo.

I am waiting for the same one to arrive in the post and have order the removal keys. Stereo will come with a code. Any help would be much helpful. I think I will need a small star screwdriver to remove existing screws and then a straight swap ??. How to I program the Code etc ?

    thanks

The screws are only caps to close the holes.

Remove them, insert your extractors, then pry them outwards to unlock the tabs. Still prying outwards, pull the extractors towards yourself : the radio should come.

I admit it's one the most painful jobs on this car...

Maybe you'll need a third hand to help pulling the radio out.

It's easier IMO if you first remove the other modules so you get room under or above it.

The climate control module is probably the easiest to remove.

First remove the tray : pinch the top and bottom walls in their centres, then pull it out.

Next you'll be able to slip your hand under the climate control module and pull it from behind. Pull one side first, then it will come easily.

There's an horizontal plastic wall between the climate control module and the radio, but you'll still be able to reach it from under it and behind the radio.

The radio is slipped into a metal cage you'll have to remove too, unless you'll be fitting another 2-DIN compatible radio. The connectors are clipped to the cage, and the OEM radio plugs straight into them. If your'e going to fit an aftermarket radio, then you'll have to unlock loose the connectors first, so you'll have room to fit the adapter loom between them and your new stereo.

Always use an adapter loom, never cut any wire. There a lot of important signals coming to the connectors, including CAN bus lines.

    Good luck.

Well today I managed to change the CD/Radio without any problems. Worst part was finiding the star screw size which took me ages to find. The rest was fine and pleased with it. Thanks for your help Z80

I am now thinking if it would be possible to change the clock/radio the screen above radio for a larger size. I currrently have the slim type but would prefer to have the bigger size screen. Does any one know if it will fit and work ok ? Will i be able to get more option from it. eg, sat nav.?

    thanks
