Engine noise

Hi, anyone able to shed some light on my problem? My car is a 1.8sri 2007 with 55 000 miles and has a knocking noise coming from around the timing belt side of the engine, the noise is quite noticeable and "knocks" around twice a second at idle. Still original timing belt and looks ok. Any advice is greatly appreciated, Darren.

Auxiliary belt tensioner could be the cause,or the water pump.

cam phaser solenoids isnt it stops the tapping or can if you take the filters off ? theres a how2 on here have a look at te disscusion thread

Thanks for the info and links vectra ste, antowens and macdad. I'v had a read through and their problem is only on start up, mine is there all the time. might it be that mine is more advanced or somethine else?

Get the aux and timing belts checked asap.

I'll get it to the garage asap, it can't be good. Will keep you all posted.
