Default Interior Light - 4th light switch blank ?

Hi guys. A 2004 Gsi preface here. Interior light has 3 of the 4 buttons in use (LR Map Reading & Interior) but there is a 4th "blank. I have looked on ebay and can see versions that have 2 switches, and 3 switches, can anyone tell me if the 4th was ever put to use, and what it does ?
    Cheers

There's two map reading lights, one switch to turn interior lights all on and one switch to disable all interior lights.

Thanks Ian, they seem to have left the "switch all lights off" switch button off on mine. To get 4 switch buttons working, is it just a case of fitting a switch, or a replacement panel, or is there other wiring to do ?

The 4th one was apparently part of the Police Pack, to allow them to turn off the light unit so that it didn't come on when they open the doors on obs, but whether thats true or just forum rumour, who knows.

I'd prise the blank button off and see if there's anything behind it. If it's there, all you need is the button cover

Mine's only got the three buttons too. When I had my old saloon, I picked up a four button one on Ebay which worked fine when I fitted it, but they do seem few and far between and it would be a more fiddly job for me with my estate because of the sunroof controls, I'd have to transfer the guts of a four switch one into the current one instead of just swapping the whole unit. To be honest the lack of that one button really doesn't bother me enough

    Default

The fourth switch is used for two different options
The retail version is for when the rear is fitted reading lights, these can then be switched off from the front
The police version switches controls all the lights

Well thanks to everyone for your info. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for one of these now.
Whether or not I'm going to go undercover and use it to switch all the lights off, or just control the rear reading lights, I'm undecided for now

Im going to check my old 2 button one, I wonder if its just a case of unsoldering the off button and soldiering it into the 3 button's pcb?
