Used to play the guitar when I was at school. Many moons ago. Not played for years though. They do say that practice makes perfect though...

I went for for learning the note locations on the fretboard first and then go onto scales, as most songs/solos are based on a scale or variation of one when I started, before I went onto playing bass guitar.

good guitar, learn to play tabs, been playing since 1996 can play well, self taught, strengthen your fingers through practice, your finger tips will harden the more you play. buy guitar rig software or amplitube and usb guitar cable, its important to sound like the band you are trying to play songs from , i think this helps.

I started last year, and in that time i have progressed quite nicely... I started using a website called http://www.guitartricks.com I went through the core learning system and got the basics learnt off my own back. I then found a guitar tutor close to me and started having a lesson every other week. If you find a good tutor (look on the Registers Guitar Tutors website) near you, IMO certainly pays off. They will show you were you might be picking up bad habits and correct them before they become habit.

Most lessons cost about £20 for an hour and i really do recommend them. I moved so had a find another, and again ended up with a really good tutor who listens to what i want to achieve, helps select songs/riffs etc. You will be very suprised how quick you can pick it up and start strumming along with various songs - and most of all its a great sense of achievement and satisfaction.

YouTube is also a very good source of tutorials and lessons. Dont bite off more than you can chew - you'll get fustrated very quickly. Finds songs that are relitively easy to start with. A good channel on YT is

    http://www.youtube.com/user/martyzso...e=results_main

Makes learning a new song quite an enjoyable experience.

Other than that, the key is practice. You will find some chords very easy and come natural, others you will attempt and wonder how on earth its even possible to contort you hand into the shape needed, but with practice it becomes natural! 20mins at least 3-4 times a week will see you progress nicely - 20mins a day and you'll be flying in no time mate.

    Hope this helps

    Good luck with it mate.

I tried and now just pick it up once in a while. Im okay at it but I must admit my talents were always for the piano.

I have a practice amp and all leads going cheap if interested.

Not sure how I would get it to you unless a member was heading your way.

    Cheers

    Chris
