    Default Gear box/change

    Hi all,

I've been driving an Astra today and remembered how good the gearbox was in my old one compared to the Vectra. Does anybody else feel it lets the car down slightly? I know its meant to munch miles on the motorway, but sometime regular changes are unavoidable.

Why does it feel so different?

I drive an 2006 SRi, so is this what vauxhall would call a sports gearbox - or are they the same in all models?

    Thanks

The five and six speeds are the Wide Ratio, expect the one in the 2.0T which is a close ratio, I suppose what you could term a 'sports' gearbox.

If yours is the six speed (F40) box then they were known to suffer from notchy changing - some peoples boxes took this to the extreme and crunched into a few gears and were replaced under warranty.

I must admit that the box on mine lets the drive down. Mine suffers mainly going in to second but it's quite notchy all the way through.

I got a new gear box in mine just before crimbo, the fault came under the "cold start" problem, ie 1st and 2nd were a bit stiff when the car was cold.

When I asked VX about this problem they said they have a fitting kit for other gear boxes but mine and the F40 were different.
