Default Post Office Road Tax - Insurance Certificate

    Hey all,

Would i be correct in saying that as long as the insurance certificate is valid at the time of handing over (only 1 or 2 days left before insurance expires) , the post office would issue a tax disc?

or drive about with no valid tax disc on your car for a few days, aslong as you have ordered it online, you get 5 days grace i think.

Nope. If your Tax renews on the 1st of the month, and say the Insurance runs out of the 28th of the previous month the PO will not renew the tax disc because the insurance will not be valid on the day the tax commences. I used to have the exact issue in the past with the wife's old car, because the VED and insurance renewals were both due on the 1st of the month. If you go on to the DVLA website and try to renew your tax disc online it wont allow you to do it because of this either.

hi das, from the way i read this, he will be going to the post office but his insurance documents will only have a futher one or two days left on it - meaning he is insured at the time he presents to the post office to tax his car?

Yes - Thats correct. When the insurance cert is handed over to the post office, the car WILL be insured - albeit only for that day maybe a one after.
